Went to New Orleans two Years ago, just at the start of Mardi Gras. Great Event, carnivals were spectacular and Bourbon Street is mad.
I particularly like the effect giving a necklace to a female has on the female. Enchanting! Perhaps we should adopt the ritual in the UK, then again, friday night in wolverhampton(say no more)!

What sort of necklace? It makes a difference to the reaction you'll get.
Mardi Gras in New Orleans sounds like fun. The closest I've got so far is seeing the annual Carnaval in the south of the Netherlands. It's held at the same time as the Rio Carnival in February (similar Catholic roots), but being in the Netherlands in February it's absolutely freezing. Furry costumes, trucks dispensing free Heineken and very drunk oompah bands are the order of the day.

It goes something like this.....
Shops sell plastic, colourful necklaces or beads, and also the participants in the carnaval throw similar beads and necklaces at passers by in the street. The more ellaborate the necklace the better the response from your chosen recipient.
Go to Bourbon Street, in the french Quarter of New Orleans (it heaves during Mardi Gras). Throw your beads at ladies in the balconies above the street, and in return they will display their best assets. All done in the worst possible taste, and very good fun!
Bourbon Street is great place to visit, good bars, great live music and a free peep show!! plus americans even like a black country accent, which is nice.
Tours of the graveyards are also recommended, very strange.
If you get the chance go, its not to be missed. I go back in 2006.. I count the days...

This started out as some crap spam post but It's interesting and a bit odd reading back the replies since what's happened to New Orleans. I guess it's pretty obvious to say you won't be going in 2006 now then Kel?

Mother Nature hey? It's the only place that ever interested me on that continent. Hated the media turning it into some race issue though. I don't see colour, I see tragedy and it was disgusting blaming poor relief aid on the ethnicity of the people there. All colours suffered and continue to do so. I kind of despise the media.

Probably will end up in another conference city like Vegas... who knows..
