shes one of those peope whos album I keep meaning to buy yet never get around to it like the strokes 1st album Better get to it then! Hopefully the original version is still in print - here in the States Astralwerks issued a version with a different track listing and some remixed/speed-adjusted tracks that really killed the album's distinctive feel.

I'm going to see Gemma Hayes next Tuesday at the Rescue Rooms Nottingham. What can I expect? I love her first album, but the second seems a bit bland in comparison, suffering from a corporate type of LA production (I hope Carina's new album doesn't suffer the same fate!)
Maybe the songs will sound better live.

I'm going to see Gemma live in a few days too. Haven't seen her before either! I've been trying to get into the new album but I agree it just doesn't seem to be as good. Maybe more of a grower

Well, I saw her last night and she was fantastic, surpassing all expectations! The songs from the new album DID sound much better live. In my opinion, she should have ditched that bland LA production and recorded the album live. Great performer with a lot of light-hearted banter with the crowd. Shame I didn't win the raffle prize of a Cornish pastie Though I'm not sure how I could have preserved it as a memento of the gig! I'm sure you'll enjoy the gig, Steve.

Yeah, you were right, Andy. Gemma Hayes was really good live and the songs definitely have a bit more 'oomph' than on the album! She did the pasty raffle again and I didn't win either! Tssk
She played in Trafalgar Square for St Patrick's Day too but I couldn't make it unfortunately. Anyone go to that?

She's announced a short UK tour, I suppose to support her new album (I've not seen a release date yet). Here are the dates:
Mon 28 Apr Spring & Airbrake Belfast Thu 1 May Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen London Fri 2 May Manchester University Sat 3 May Oran Mor Glasgow Sun 4 May The Bodega Social Club Nottingham
I've already bought tickets for Nottingham. Seeing as she just about sold out The Rescue Rooms last time she played Nottingham, and The Social is a smaller venue, I thought I'd better get in there quick!

An absolutey storming gig from Gemma and her band at Nottingham Social. She was as charming as ever, and just seems to get more beautiful as the years go by. And for such a delicate looking lady, she sure pelts out those songs with guts and feeling! Surprisingly, the gig wasn't sold out as I thought it would be in such a small venue and she remarked on how quiet the crowd was between songs - I'd put that down to a combination of holding her in such respect and being spell-bound! However, each song was received rapturously, just no loud chatting - a pet hate of mine at gigs. Shame there was no merchandise for sale as I was in the mood to buy at least a t-shirt, and I was hoping I'd be able to purchase the new album before the release date of 12th May.
I managed to nab the drummer's set list:
Happy Sad Something In My Way Out Of Our Hands In Over My Head What A Day This Is What You Do Nothing Can Home Back Of My Hand Tear In My Side Hanging Around
Oliver Let A Good Thing Go
The evening rounded off a fantastic weekend, with Forest getting promoted Saturday. ;D
