Not been moved to mention any new artists on here for a very long time, but I saw the Joy Formidable supporting Howling Bells last Saturday, and they were immense. Powerful music with a beautiful lead singer (in voice and looks . Reminded me at times of Belly at their very best.

Manta Ray - I spotted Ritzy on your avatar on another thread! I saw TJF at Cambridge a few weeks back. They are amazing and I can't stop listening to the mini-album (seems to be all the rage these days). Had nice chat with them after too. Can't wait for their next visit to Cambridge in June.

I can't stop listening to the mini-album either. Healthy obsession, I'd say . It may be some time before I see them again as they're not playing anywhere near me in the next few months, though I might venture up to Leeds or York.

It's a Tuesday evening and I work till 6pm. A bit of a tight squeeze to get down from North Lincs in time, but I've done it before to see Teenage Fanclub, so it's a possibility and I'm not ruling it out. Where is the venue Portland? In the city centre?

Ah - you're in north Lincs. It's about half a mile from the centre on Milton Road. Great pub venue with gig room that only holds about 60-80 so very intimate so best to get ticket in advance. Main act is usually on about 9:15 / 9:30. If you decide to come let me know. I'm hoping Carina will play there again too! www.theportland.co.uk/John

Saw them Tuesday night. Fantastic - even better than last time and lovely people too.
They played some new stuff which sounded pretty good and encored with a great version of While the Flies.

Very jealous . I'm not getting to see them this tour - just too busy at work and a lack of convenient venues. The only gig I'll be going to this month is the Wedding Present at the Welly in Hull.

Saw them on Monday at the Borderline in London, awesome show! Filmed it too.. somewhat shoddy camerawork, & people in the way, but anyway... vimeo.com/5073380

Saw them again in Sheffield last night. Truly magnificent! Can't wait to see them again and get their first full album when it's out later this year.

BTW, for our friends across the Atlantic, they are doing a short tour of US and Canada in April/May. I'd advise you not to miss them if they're near you. www.myspace.com/thejoyformidable
