Seeing as she spends most of her time in the States, it has always mystified me why there's not more contribution from that side of the pond. This board livens up only when she visits the UK or releases some new material.

Seeing as she spends most of her time in the States, it has always mystified me why there's not more contribution from that side of the pond. This board livens up only when she visits the UK or releases some new material. I'm in the US and check here usually everyday but there seems to be very few active US members. I've read the board since 2004 but didn't join or follow it in detail until Sept 2007. Since then I check regularly. But, since then, outside of the Annie Lennox tour, Carina hasn't really done too much in the US. There's the occasional flurry of gigs in or around LA and a handful in NYC and Canada. The rest of the US doesn't get to see her. In June, she eluded to me a possibility of Chicago but that's never materialized. I assumed she'd hit more US cities in support of "Things..." but, by this time, I guess not. And, surprisingly, there seems to be no reports about private donation gigs. However, in the UK she's done in 2007 11 gigs, 2008 15 gigs, 2009 9 gigs. To me, that's a lot of shows for a country that, geographically, is so much smaller than the US. I wish she would do a perportional amount around the US. Perhaps UK fans, who are her original fans, are excited to have her back and want to write about it. Personally, I haven't posted much since she ended her UK tour in July mainly because she hasn't been very active publicly. There's nothing to write about. I do keep my site updated as I find things but those might not be significant enough to post about here. So, does anyone know exactly what she's going to be doing with Pucifer? On Twitter, she posted she's just part of the band but I can't seem to find any dates. Apparently, she's recorded more with Early Winters. Perhaps something will result out of that.

It really isn't a lot of shows, it's next to nothing in the scheme of things. It's a difficult situation because touring costs so much money but unless you're doing masses of shows each year it's really hard to gain a lot of momentum. Going to shows is completely different comparing the UK to the US, people in the US don't really think much of having to drive a few hours to get to a show they want to get to. I'd say that in the UK unless a show is less than an hour travel away then most people don't bother.

I agree. there needs to be more people posting on here.
Carina seems to be trying to gain a following in L.A. with all the shows at the Hotel Cafe she's been doing. Maybe the word will spread about her.
I really wish she would do a few more dates across the U.S., though. Her Chicago show at Martyrs a few years ago was awesome, but too short.
Please come back to the Midwest, Carina!

It all boils down to the cost of touring, which is very expensive if she's taking a full band with her, a cost she has to bear herself with no record company deal. Travelling across the States must cost quite a bit, no matter what mode of transport you use. At least it must be cheaper to tour here in the UK (apart from the plane ticket across the Atlantic!), but she's rarely here nowadays, and probably won't bring her usual backing band with her if she does visit us . If not for the internet, she'd probably be unknown outside LA and Wolverhampton! Slight exaggeration, of course.
