Really disappointed that I couldn't make it to this gig last night but I would love to know how those of you who did go enjoyed it? Which songs were played? How was the atmosphere? Anyone take any pics (please send me them ) ?

I've said this in several places already, but it was brilliant. I haven't been so excited about a gig i've just been to in ages. The whole gig had the feel of setting the first blood mystery very much behind her, and it was good enough to make you think she was right to do so...
Set list:
Motel 74 - the main guitar riff to the fore and sounding purer than on the album, smudge's double bass very prominent, this is coming to be one of my favourites very quickly and was a great starter... Shoot - Loses some of the power of the choruses when the voice isn't double-tracked, but performed with great energy nevertheless. Already a vehicle for some of the fun, odd screaming bits she sometimes does live Lacuna - classic song, and when they all get into the solo towards the end Carina's dancing kicks in, which just rocks... Paris - power gone, drum broke, guitar out of tune... then it starts again. This song still sounds great, even though it's very familiar now. With everything going wrong... 'I would say something but... I've lost the will to live...' Monument - the other side of the drum goes. but still sounding great. Into My Blood - gets a real kick to it by being played with just the toms, instead of the snare. More and more I see why this was the obvious single. Straight after this (as I remember) she chucked a bottle of water over her face, causing make up to run everywhere, but very interestingly, and of course the (already very high) volume of paparazzi photos doubles... They really pissed me off actually... Spoils some of the intimacy of being at the front of the Flapper... Elegy - sounds lovely, and was done very simply. Let It Fall - How I see it was due to be next (from the setlist), but with all the bits going wrong and the fact that that song is usually played much harder now, they opted for let it fall instead and decided to make it the last track. This gets longer every time she plays it now, with improvised spoken bits in the middle as well as fairly standard song bits she adds in each time. Great finale.
I think that actually was meant to be the end fully, with no intention of an encore given how wrong it had all been going, but this gig had already been just fucking amazing, so we weren't letting her go that easily. She came back on quite quickly, bringing with her Chrissy(sp?), who did the original backing vocals for the song, to sing an acoustic version of 'How I See It'. This was closer to the album version than I've ever heard it and sounded stunning. They obviously hadn't intended to do it, but Chrissy must have kept the part in her head really well, because they sounded like they'd been rehearsing it for ages.
And, once we had one encore we might as well demand more. Again, taking a trip back to the old stuff, we had a fully acoustic version of 'The waves', which was the first song i ever noticed of hers, so really cool to finish with, particularly with it being just her and the guitar, as it was the first time I saw her, supporting Ryan Adams at Ronnie Scotts.
So yeah, long ramble I'm afraid. But this was the 11th time I've seen her, and in my top 3, if not at the top, along with the other Flapper gig and her headline at Ronnie Scotts in 2001.

Thank you so much for that Sarah Great review! I only got my copy of The Disconnection yesterday so I'm still familiarising myself with some of the new songs but that sounds a good set list if a little short! I love On Leaving from the first album so I hope Carina will play that at The Garage (fingers crossed)! ;D Did you take any photos yourself? I am gonna take my camera to the next gig but I hope it's ok and doesn't annoy people I have to use the flash as without it the photos blur terribly

frankly, with the amount of climbing around the stage and just simply blockign your vision that the other photo guys do, i don't think a few old fashioned bits of flash photography will be too bad. i went a bit overboard and took a whole film without quite intending to (actually missing the last few acoustic songs, which was a shame), but i use the old style cameras and cheap processing, so it will be a couple of weeks before i can scan them up...

Oh I know what you mean about the press photographers! I'm not that bad (no climbing about ) but I still worry that I am pissing off the artist flashing a lens in their face! It's the last thing I want to do! Also when I went to see Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man at Somerset House I took a load of pics on my digital camera. Beth et al weren't at all bothered by this as far as I could tell but some people behind me said something like "did he take enough pictures?" in a sort of sarcastic tone at the end of the gig Just kind of upset me a bit

Hey I'm currently working in a place where I develop and print photographs! If your pics turn out any good maybe you could post me the negatives and I could make some free copies and enlargements etc Have to make sure the boss is out though ;D
