Oxford 06/06 Gig review

Just got back from Oxford so thought i'd do a review ;D

First the formalities - setlist was Shoot, Motel 74, Into My Blood, Monument, Lacuna, Paris, Elegy and Let It Fall

Carina was on second of a three band show - cause she didnt want to go on so late! First band were questionable and i didnt pay any attention to the last band - although they seemed to be doing covers.

Certainly one of the best gigs i've seen Carina do - superb - I guess due to the great crowd. Seems the more lively the crowd the better the show - now you know!

I arrived about 7.30 and only found the venue by following the sound of Motel 74 which was being soundchecked followed by a couple more - I guessed that this wouldnt be an early gig as Carinas soundcheck didnt finish till 8 and there was still one band to soundcheck!

Went for something to eat and got back to the venue - a typical cellar bar venue at about 9.30 - it wasnt that large - probably smaller than the Flapper. Carina came on just after 10 in a black top, black skirt and heels (again) - this is becoming a regular thing - all very nice ;D Tom had his white mask on teh back of his head again

Stand outs tonight were Elegy and Let It Fall - especially the latter. The Pixies insert was especially good. Would love to be there are Lollapalooza in NY when the Pixies are on the same bill!

Carina did the usual signing at the merchandise table - i wonder if that will be the last time as the next gigs are Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds and Lollapalooza - will she get too big to be accessible after the shows?

Lots of board members there - nice to see you all again - even met Sarah from the first fan website - finally

jce - prompt as usual with your gig reviews! Good work. Maybe you could arrange some sort of official tour reporter job for the Lollapalooza tour...

I couldn't go in the end (the friend who had been very keen to come with me decided not to at the last minute) so am very jealous of anyone who was there.

Good to read about it though, and glad (but not surprised...) to hear it was a damned good one!

Yeah, yet another great show No idea what the other bands were like, 'cos we didn't have time to hang around after Carina & only arrived part way through the 2nd song... If anyone who was there is wondering, I was the soggy pile of sweaty mush in blue about 3 people back from the stage...godDAMN it was hot...

Touring Reporter on Lollapalooza - now theres a damn fine idea - lets see - 7 weeks on the road watching all those bands RIGHT - i'm off to check my leave allowance and see how many BA miles i have

Hot - i was dripping by the end of the first song - a trurly hot and sweaty club gig - the walls were indeed dripping. Not been to one like that for a while

For some reason it took us almost 2 hours to get from London to Oxford on the train so didn't get there until midway through Motel 74 and completely missed the opener, Shoot

Still, the rest of the gig we did see was fantastic! The walls were dripping it was that hot! Well I imagine they might have been...

Have to agree with you about Let it Fall, JCE. This song just gets better and better live. I do wish (much as I love The Disconnection) that there were also a few more TFBM tracks in the set, however.

Yeah good crowd, a few jokers in the audience though.

Was nice to see a some board members again and say hello to Carina and family. Isn't Carina's nan a star?! Seems to go to all her gigs! ;D

Amazing gig. Carina and her band were on really top form, and the atmosphere was about as good as it gets. I put this down to a quality audience - they were very attentive and appreciative, and from the buzz I was picking up in my general vicinity she's got a bunch more lifelong fans after that one. People were coming up to her to express their appreciation for the rest of the evening. It kind of gives you hope for the future, as the students in the audience will be running the country eventually!

A constant feature of every Carina gig is that you get to meet the nicest people, so a big kittenny purr goes out to everyone there. See you at the next one...
