Carina Round -- The Disconnection (Disconnected)
Sam Forrest WHEN confronted by the dramatic voice and evocative lyrics of Carina Round's sophomore release, parallels with the likes of PJ Harvey are inevitable.
Nowhere is the connection more evident thanĀ in the awesome power of lead single Into My Blood, which allows Round's stunning voice to career wildly above a cacophony of full-blooded guitars and sinuous bass.
Elsewhere the many shades of the Wolverhampton native's songwriting is mirrored by equally inventive production, showcased on the warped Latin funk of ParisĀ and the debauched brass in the punch-drunk chorus of Lacuna.
Clearly more concerned with exorcising demons than filling the dancefloor, what saves The Disconnection from being nothing more than an extended visit to the psychiatrist's couch is Round's intricate songwriting craft and her uncompromising vocals.
And as Carina Round follows her singular vision, the comparisons with PJ Harvey will become but a distant memory.

Thank you Candice! Do you have the web address so I can add it to my links? Sorry if that sounds a stupid question when it clearly says 'Manchester Music' but when I looked on that site it is a different review! Look
