In my humble opinion, Radio 3 is the most radical FM station in the UK. It has no advertisers to suck up to, and it’s not trying to grab the biggest audience share, and as such it can afford to go completely leftfield on a regular basis.
If you love good music from around the world, then it’s completely necessary to listen to Late Junction (Monday – Thursday, 10:15PM to midnight), alternately presented by Fiona Talkington and Verity Sharp. They dedicate themselves to searching out the very best in music from around the world. Playlists go up on the website quite quickly, and pretty much all of the music played is available to buy.
Also Mixing It (Fridays 10:15PM to midnight) is a wonderfully eclectic mix of music chosen by Mark Russell and Robert Sandall. It’s great to hear them deconstruct a piece of banging techno, followed by some world music of outstanding beauty, followed again by some unlistenable electronica. As one listener wrote in: “Stop playing music for deranged clowns to listen to while they murder you in your sleep.”
Also Radio 3 does the usual classical, baroque and opera etc., but unlike Classic FM, you don’t feel like you’re at the dentists.

Sounds good. Have to admit I don't think I've ever tuned in to Radio 3 (knowingly ) but I'm open to a nice bit of musical eclecticism! I suppose John Peel's Radio 1 show is currently where I would venture for that but these days I don't really get to listen to radio much at all. Just a bit inconnvenient as the tuner is in the lounge and other people usually want to hear the telly or whatever Is radio 3 streamed online, do you know? I'd give it a whirl then...

Check this out then:
Friday 25th June, BBC Radio 3, 10:15PM - 11:30 PM
"Revealing" PJ Harvey interview on Mixing It. Some small compensation for those unable to be at Glastonbury this year, despite staying up all night trying to get tickets (not that I'm sore...).
I'm pretty sure Radio 3 is streamed. Also some programs are available on demand for a week or so after transmission. They're very good with displaying playlists too.

Cheers for that Fridgemagnet! Where did you get the info from? I went to the Radio 3 website but couldn't find mention of the PJ interview. Probably didn't look very carefully... If you could post us a link though that would be great!

My pleasure, Steve. I found out by listening to Radio 3! The details are correct (I've checked with the Radio Times and Radio 3 homepage), and you can indeed stream Radio 3 by mouse-clicking your way here: www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio3.shtml?listenAlso, if you're in northern France, you might want to check out Studio Brussel (Stu Bru), hovering around the 100MHz (or so) mark on FM. You can pick it up all the way from France to Holland, and they play the best music. They're fond of The Streets at the moment...
