Just thinking as it seems Carina will have a new album out next year where do you think would be some good venues for her to play on the next tour? Or where would you like to see her ideallly??

Interesting question,Steve. I can only really speak about midlands venues because they are the ones I'm most familiar with. If you like hot, sweaty and intimate(as I do) then it has to be The Flapper in Brum.Last time she played there the whole place was literally throbbing. But if Interscope give the new album a big marketing push then I fear it won't be big enough(it sold out last time). ;D Of the larger places,I'd like to see her play The Robin 2 in Bilston again. It's a nice venue and it was there I saw my first Carina gig almost 4 years ago when she played a solo acoustic set which knocked me sideways and from which I've never really recovered! It's about to undergo a major expansion which will almost double the capacity to about 700. The Warwick Arts Centre is another good place if anyone prefers a sit-down theatre-type concert(I think she's played there before but it was before I knew of her.) But whenever,wherever....personally I can't wait!

Living Room - LOL - yeh why not Small intimate venue, select invitees - perfect for an acoustic show, then after at a basement hot sweaty club - like the last Oxford gig Think i could make that

The Bivouac in Lincoln, then I wouldn't have to travel very far to a gig for once.

First off, welcome filthytight! Always nice to see new people posting I'll go with the living room idea (even though mine would be a bit crap for setting up equipment in)! Have to be an acoustic set I think! Er... more realistically, of the London venues I like Lock 17 (Dingwalls), The Garage and The Spitz but I would love to see Carina at Bush Hall (in Shepherds Bush)! That is one of my favourite venues anywhere. Such a nice atmosphere and not too big! Half Moon in Putney would be good too! That would only really work for an acoustic gig though and might be too small for Carina now... although Thea Gilmore did play there recently so you never know! I DON'T want to see Carina at Hammersmith Apollo (ok I would go if she was playing there) but I still hate it! Too big, huge barrier between stage and audience and the only drink they sell is bloody Carling! Corporate whores that they are I've only been to a few venues outside the capital and abroad so will have to have a think about that... hmm do agree with JCE that Cellar Bar in Oxford is a great venue!

For me it depends on a few things - crowd, sound, atmosphere etc. And not all, in fact very few, venues can offer everything. Usually where the sound is good then the rest are crap! . The Cellar bar in Oxford was a fantastic gig but the sound was very poor. Having only seen a few Carina gigs , i think my fav for the whole thing was that Oxford gig, for the best sound i think was the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham and the Little Civic for nostalgia reasons. For the future - how about London Union Chapel? (although i hear its closing) or anything with a high ceiling - The Albert Hall? But i'd really like to see a whole gig at the Thought Ranch! First half of the whole of FBM then second half of Disconnection followed by an encore of ALL of the new stuff.

Not as though I'm biased and its really convenient but the Robin 2 will do for me.
Locality. Close to Wolves easy to get to, even for southerners!
Great local real Ale pubs, the old white rose offers a fine selection of liquid refreshment, even (Death by)Leffe on draught!!!!
Good Curry house next door
Good local support for the girl from low hill
Sound on the whole is good
A taxi rank that will take me home within 50meters
Little civic/wulfrun hall are also also nice venues. Dont want anything to big, I'd like to talk to her afterwards!

Borderline, London. I'm going to see KT Tunstall at the ICA next month, and also at the Scala. Will report on which has the better vibe!

I still haven't been to the Bordeline but I know Carina did play there just over a year ago. I did see her gig at the ICA in December 2003 though. It's nice and small and the actual building and bar area is quite plush. However, the atmosphere seemed a bit dead (maybe just because Carina was first on and hardly anyone knew who she was at the time) plus the security were quite annoyingly pedantic. I took 4 photos and got told to put my camera away I quite like the Scala....

I saw Carina the last time she played at the Borderline - 13/12/02 when she premiered a lot of the new stuff with the "new" band :-)
Nice venue although not the best shape - and great that they got her nan a seat and put it right at the front :-)

Just thinking as it seems Carina will have a new album out next year where do you think would be some good venues for her to play on the next tour? Or where would you like to see her ideallly?? -the botanical gardens. -a big dome topped cave (hmn, acoustics! john! ) -a jeanette winterson book signing -opening for pj harvey or tori amos (instant access to target audience - hello?) -shoot a live gig video in an old pre-victorian asylum -with a 12-24 peice string orchestra whose arrangements were written by john cotton umn, that was a bit off topic wasn't it? xxxx

The Cellar bar in Oxford was a fantastic gig but the sound was very poor. yeah, john (sound engineer) said the sound was really bad there... ceiling too low and odd shaped room, also desk in weird place... said he had to work his testicles off that night... but was good gig none the less... went to a gig there afew months back... saw what he meant.
